If we did drugs and our dealer up and moved to Kentucky, we’re pretty sure we’d feel the same way when our boy Ben Wenk of Three Springs Fruit Farm emailed us with word of scaled-back delivery until growing season for the Adams County orchard resumes next year. There were tears. There were things thrown. Not our proudest moment. But if you’ve ever tasted Ben’s bodacious Jonagold apples you know we weren’t overreacting.
Jonagold is the love child of the Jonathan and Golden Delicious apples. Heavy and succulent, the Jonagolds Three Springs grows wear thin ruby-toned skins with a shot of spring green at either end and a spray of freckles. One bite, you’ll be hooked on the resulting gush of nectar that wells up through the firm, crunchy flesh. Actually, we’re eating one right now. Get here before we ravage them all.
